Ronald H. Grothaus D.M.V.

 

Class of 1959

 

Ronald H. Grothaus D.V.M., a member of Rogers High School’s third graduating class, was the starting member of the football and baseball teams for three years.  He was selected to the second team All GLL his senior year in football.  In baseball, Ron had the most wins as a pitcher his junior and senior years.  He led the team in hitting all three years (.365, .449 and .455).

 

In 1987, Heidelberg College honored Ron by selecting him to their Hall of Fame.  A 1963 graduate, he accumulated a pitching record of 14 wins and 3 losses.  Ron’s ERA was 1.81 during his college career.  His “try-out” with the Detroit Tigers was fun with no contract.  Ron later went on to the University of Toledo (M.S.) and Ohio State University (D.V.M.)

 

Currently, Ron is a Toledo veterinarian serving the community for over 30 years.  He was active in the Maumee Rotary for over 15 years.  Ron and his wife Kay have two sons, Roger (veterinarian) and Matthew (orthopedic surgeon).

 

The Grothaus’ lead an active life breeding and training thoroughbred horses with the help of their sons and granddaughters.
