Hall of Fame Board

 

WILLIAM GLADIEUX - PRESIDENT

    Bill has been a teacher at Robert S. Rogers High School since 1970.  Bill coached the men’s basketball team from 1973 – 1984.  He retired from coaching as the most successful basketball coach in the history of Rogers High School with 138 wins.

 

MATTHEW C. SMITH – TREASURER

    Matthew is a 1987 graduate of Robert S. Rogers High School and was a 3-sport athlete at Rogers, lettering in Football, Wrestling and Baseball.  Matt was also Captain of the All-Academic team in all 3 sports for the City League.  Matt continued his athletic career playing football at Ohio Northern University.  He has been an active part of the Rogers athletic community and a consistent presence at the Rogers Holiday, City and Sectional Wrestling Tournaments.

 

KIP HARTZELL - SECRETARY

    Kip is a 1968 graduate of Robert S. Rogers High School.  Kip is a registered golf professional.  Since he graduated from Rogers, Kip has been very active in the athletic program.  After retiring as a referee from the sport of wrestling, he took over as tournament director for the many tournaments held at Rogers High School.  Kip has also been an active coach at various city-league schools.

 

DICK WAGONER

    Dick is both a former athlete and coach at Robert S. Rogers High School.  A 3-sport star, Dick graduated from Rogers in 1963.  Dick continued his football career at Bowling Green State University and was later drafted by the Minnesota Vikings.  After serving as an NCO in the United States Army, Dick returned to Rogers in 1971 where he would spend the next 25 years as a dedicated teacher, coach and athletic director.

 

RICARDO RIOS

    Rick is a 1987 graduate of Rogers High School and quarterbacked the football team his senior year.  He went on to play football at John Carroll University before finishing his degree at the University of Toledo.  Rick returned to Rogers as a teacher and coach and has led the Rogers football team to the state playoffs two times in his short tenure as the head football coach.  Rick also coached the women’s basketball team a number of years and led the team to the city finals.

 

CHARLES CONTRADA

    Charles is a 1969 graduate of Robert S. Rogers High School and was an exceptional athlete at Rogers.  He was captain of the 1968 football team.  His father, Vincent Contrada, was the first athletic director of Rogers High School.  Charles is a prominent lawyer in the Toledo area and an active member of the Rogers athletic community.

 

PETE LYELL   Pete is a 1976 graduate of Robert S. Rogers High School and was a prominent athlete while at Rogers.  After completing his teaching degree, Pete returned to Rogers as a coach and a teacher.  Currently Pete is the assistant athletic director.  He is the current girls golf coach and was the Athletic Director at Rogers in the 90's.
 

 

JACKIE LYELL

    Jackie has been an active part of the Robert S. Rogers High School community for almost 50 years.  She carries first-hand knowledge about many of the athletes who have walked the halls of Rogers High School.   While working for Rogers High School in the 70s & 80s, Jackie was chose as "Miss Page" and is honored to join the other fine women on that trophy.
 

 

BEVERLY J. MARTIN

    Beverly is a former teacher and coach at Robert S. Rogers High School and was one of the coaches that elevated women’s athletics to varsity status at Rogers.  She was the first varsity girls’ tennis coach at Rogers and was also the coach of the 1977 state champion girls’ track team.  She is also a member of the Ohio Track and Field Hall of Fame and the Toledo City League Hall of Fame.

 

JOHN BERGENER

    John is a 1965 graduate of Robert S. Rogers High School.  Though an athlete at Rogers, John’s biggest recognition comes as a former sportswriter for the Toledo Blade.  For many years John covered High School Athletics and was proud to provide feature articles about his alma mater.

 

RANDALL J. BARTZ

    Randy is a former football coach for Robert S. Rogers High School and is the current athletic director.  Randy was an integral part of getting the Rogers High School Athletic Hall of Fame off the ground.  He takes pride in developing well-rounded athletes in the high school.

 

ALVIN B. STEPHENS

    Al is a 1972 graduate of Robert S. Rogers High School and stayed close to home throughout his teaching and coaching career.  After several years of teaching at McTigue Jr. High School, Al has moved up to administrative duties for the Toledo Public Schools.  Al coached wrestling at McTigue for many years and helped bring on the success of the wrestling program at Rogers.  Al also was an assistant and head football coach at Rogers High School.

 

TOM GUITTEAU

    The latest member of the Hall of Fame Board, Tom’s history with Robert S. Rogers High School goes back many years.  Tom proudly stepped in as the head basketball coach when Will Collins had health problems and also acted as the head football coach for several years.
