Gerald R. Ehrsam
“Valued academics as much as participating in sports!”
Gerald Ehrsam is a 1965 graduate of Rogers High School where he competed in football, basketball, track and summer baseball.
In football, Gerald played both on offense as a quarterback and on defense as a safety. He was co-captain of the 1965 football team, which won the school’s first football league championship.
In Gerald’s senior year, he was named first-team All-GLL, and was Rogers’ first football player to be honored as First Team All-State selection. He also won an Honorable Mention selection to the prep All-American Football Squad. He was also selected to the National High School Football Hall of Fame.
Gerald received a football scholarship to the Ohio State University and as a freshman; he was voted Outstanding Freshman Offensive Back. He lettered three years at Ohio State and was participating member of the 1968 Rose Bowl and National Championship Team.
Throughout his academic years, Gerald always valued academics as much as participating in sports. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Gerald furthered his education at The Ohio State University School of Medicine. After graduation, he completed a residency program in International Medicine and is Board Certified.
Gerald has a successful medical practice in Newark, Ohio and was voted “Physician of the Year” by his peers.
In addition to medicine, he also has an interest in Information Technology. He serves as Director of Medical Informatics in the Licking Memorial Health Systems and received a national award for his work developing the electronic medical record.
Gerald married his high school “sweetheart” Linda Brookhart, Class of 1966. They have three children and several grandchildren.
Gerald will be forever grateful and indebted to the outstanding coaches and dedicated teachers at Rogers High School who prepared him well for his future endeavors.
