Girls’ Tennis and Cross Country to Varsity Status”
Beverly Martin taught and coached at the varsity or intramural level for 32 years with Toledo Public Schools. She was one of the few coaches who helped elevate Girls’ Tennis and Cross Country to varsity status. In addition, Beverly was coaching each year that Track and Field, Tennis and Cross Country first held State Championship Competitive Events.
As the first girls’ tennis coach at Rogers, Beverly’s team won the first varsity championship after two years as champions at the intramural level. Her teams went on to win three more City Titles and Two Runner-up Honors. Six or seven All-City positions went to Rogers the first year and at least three more were named each of the following five years. Six girls qualified to State over four years and a Doubles Team was the first to place from the Toledo City League.
Beverly coached tracked along with her husband Ron for 23 years. The teams won eight City Titles, eight District Titles and six Regional Titles.
Beverly is a member of the Ohio Track and Field Hall of Fame and the Toledo City League Hall of Fame.
She and her husband Ron have been married for forty-four years and are the proud parents of three sons.
Beverly credits her family, the Rogers’ staff, coaches, the Boosters Club and especially all the athletes for her success.
